Zehui Xu

Zehui Xu (b.1998)’s work constitutes a profound reflection on the concept of belonging which is visually translated into scenarios on the border between reality and imagination, offering a personal look at the complexity of human experience and the multiple connections that bind individuals to the surrounding context, inviting us to think of ‘home’ as a spiritual refuge and starting point for an internal journey towards authenticity and self-awareness.

‘While away from my hometown, I travelled to different countries and many places. However, as time passed, I gradually realized that ‘home’ was no longer a fixed geographical location or a physical space, it was myself. Home is a sense of belonging, a profound connection with my inner world. To me, each work is like a mirror that reflects my inner world. Painting is not just a creative process, it is a way of conversing with myself, a deep introspection. It is like weaving—another form of meditation.

Every work represents a room within my heart. I search for answers in different rooms. My works do not belong solely to me, it belongs to every audience who sees it and engages with it. These works are a new form of self-healing. I hope they can offer others a sense of healing. Apart from visual enjoyment, i hope to evoke inner dialogue, a journey to each one’s particular “home”.’
